This is the removal of all living or dead remnants from within the pulp chamber and root canal passages. When a tooth dies or sustains irreversible nerve damage then a root canal treatment is necessary to enable the tooth to be retained.

A root treated tooth becomes progressively more brittle over time. It is good practice to provide a crown to give added strength.
